Narceus americanus, is a detritivorous species native to Canada, which can reach 100 mm and live up to 11 years in captivity. Adults breed readily on a substrate rich in organic material and can be supplemented with fruit and crushed eggshell for calcium.
Dorcus parallelus, commonly known as the antelope stag beetle, is found in rotten wood and tree roots. Adults are very long lived and can be fed beetle jelly or fruit including banana and apple. Sold as apx 1 month old beetle
