Hermann Tortoise ‘Dozer’ SP

Dozer has been through a couple homes now and we are hoping to find his final home to live out and enjoy. Tortoises require a reasonable amount of work daily including:

• access to time to roam safely,
• suitable varied diets (many are grown in your garden),
• trips to different stores to find the right greens,
• baths to clean off poopy shells and feet,
• substrate changes (big habitat = lots of soil),
• enrichment and toys to keep them stimulated
• creating a tortoise safe space (they may eat trash, coins, cat litter, hair ties, anything loose on the floor, etc)
• trip to a reptile vet if there ever becomes an issue

Diet: A generous portion about the size of his shell including but not limited to: dandelion greens, flowers, marigold, carrot tops, hollyhocks, snap dragon, clover, arugula, coleus, cactus and spring mix. Dozer is used to eating his pile of greens on a large slate piece this encourages foraging behavior and allows wear of his beak as he is eating. Cuttlebone in enclosure to self regulate calcium. Calcium & multivitamin dusted 2-3 x per week. 

Dozer had a vet check and beak trim in Feb 2025 with us. 

Setup: A nighttime enclosed 4x2' (or similar) section on the floor with UVB, Full spectrum LED and halogen or basking floodlamp with substrate is appropriate. This allows for free roam via a ramp throughout the day and proper access to humidity. Ideally creating a 6x6' pen or larger to include everything in one area is also acceptable. A soak is also important in additional to humid hides.
