Meet Oni! A Savannah Monitor part of our Surrender Program. Oni is a large, heavy body monitor growing up to 3-4ft. They like a 135f basking spot and UVB as they're awake during the day. Min. 4ft tank to start. Live insect diet. See below for details. Read more..
Oni has settled in very well with us and does take food from tong or left in a dish. Now on substrate and is on the sales floor to see if you have a suitable substate. Sometimes Oni is out basking other times relaxing in a cave.
Sav's eat a diet of live insects: crickets, superworms, giant mealworms, roaches, hornworms, and silkworms. Now you're thinking, "wow thats a lot of bugs for a big lizard!" And yes, it will be! Please be aware of this and costs associated with a growing monitor before considering this species. Occasionally supplementing lean whole prey such as quail and eggs can be done but this is not their wild diet and excess animals can lead to obesity and organ failure.
You could start at a 4x2x2' terrarium and upgrade within a year to the full adult enclosure. As they get up 4 feet the adult habitat should be a MINIMUM 6x3x4' with dual basking halogen/flood lamps (to cover the full body) and 2-3ft linear UVB with full spectrum LED.
